"No, Not Morgan, I mean from my other son Saul, They didn't tell you about Saul."
The Old Dark House is a grainy black and white film about a group of travelers whose car get stuck in the mud and they seek shelter from a storm in an old dark house. Another Classic directed by James Whale, Who also did Frankenstein and The Invisible Man among many more. This film is a glimpse into the times, this story is easy to follow but not always easy to see or hear. When the travelers arrive at the house, inside is a mixed bag of creeps. The characters and their performances carry this film. Boris Karloff and Brember Wills play the terrifying butler and the oldest son Saul brilliantly. Saul is amazingly convincing in his dangerous lunacy. Some other familiar faces belong to Melvin Douglas (Pendrill) and Gloria Stuart (Margret Waverton). The dialog is good and keeps the story moving. This movie has a solid plot, good twists, and a spooky atmosphere. This is a perfect movie for a stormy night in. There is no gore little violence no jumpscares or nudity. This is one of my favorite classics I love all the interesting characters. I give this a 6.5 out of 10, it is a great movie that keeps you wondering what's next. This film does not get the attention it deserves. Check it out if you love classics movies.
