Brain Damage (1988)

This is one of those films you hear about when you have explored maybe a little to deep into the horror genre, Mostly just die hard fans are aware of low budget films like this or Basketcase, Truth or Dare: A Critical Madness or Street Trash. There is a lot of very strange movies competing to be the weirdest movies ever made and this is a top contender. It is directed by Frank Henenlotter who is a pioneer of strange cinema. He directed films like this Basket Case and Frankenhooker. You can see a huge leap forward in the craftsmanship from his last film Basket Case in 1982. Brain Damage is fucked up and will leave you with a gross feeling that might be hard to shake. A parasite that makes its host hallucinate, ruins the lives of those it affects, creating a very sleazy and gorey allegory for drug addiction. I give this a 6 out of 10 because it is such an improvement from the last film but it is still uncomfortable shlock.
